ABOUT US
diSiac Dance Company was founded at Princeton University in 1998, and has since become one of the largest and most distinguished student-run dance companies on campus.
diSiac’s primary styles are contemporary and hip-hop, but we explore almost everything in between, from heels and jazz to house and popping. We seek to understand and respect the history and culture of the dance forms we engage with, but nevertheless strive to push the limits of movement beyond categorization. Our dancers range from having no experience at all to coming from pre-professional backgrounds at companies and studios such as Juilliard, Nederlands Dans Theater, Millennium Dance Complex, Urban Dance Camp, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Ballet Austin, and Hubbard Street.
In a typical year, we put on two major shows, perform at numerous campus events, host workshop series (with guest workshops from top choreographers in NYC), and execute innovative creative projects (including a strategic partnership with Lululemon). We partner annually with Princeton’s Best Buddies, BigSibs, Trenton Youth Dancers, and CityStep volunteer programs, and are working to further expand our community outreach beyond the University’s campus.
Our motto states, “You think you know, but you have no idea,” to convey that the possibilities for artistic and personal growth within our blue family are endless. The relationships formed between members make this group the one-of-a-kind, lifelong experience that it is. diSiac is so much more than an elite dance company–we are an incredible family, social group, and support network that lasts long beyond our years at Princeton.
MISSION STATEMENT
diSiac Dance Company collaborates with its members to build community, empower and engage artists and ensure that every voice feels heard, valued, and connected. We support the growth of individuals and dancers, while educating our membership and community about the backgrounds and cultures that create the dances and styles that we perform.
DEI STATEMENT
Diversity is central to our dance, artistry, communication, and collaboration as artists and as a diSiac family. It’s a key to our company’s mission to attract and embrace members who represent the backgrounds and cultures of the artistic styles and music we perform on stage. Moreover, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is deeply rooted in our collective values as a dance company and family of passionate dancers and artists who uplift and empower each other in dance and all aspects of life.
We recognize that differences in age, race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, physical ability, thinking style, and background bring richness to our artistry, dance environments, and performances on stage. Such differences help us connect better with the dances and art we perform and those we perform for. diSiac is committed to fostering an environment that welcomes, values, and empowers those identities.
